The Pilot Parallel 3.8 mm is built for larger-scale hand-lettering, using the same flat, parallel double-plate nib structure as the rest of the series — two thin metal plates that distribute ink evenly across the tip so the line stays consistent as the nib angle changes, without the dry scratchiness or nib splitting that can affect traditional wide calligraphy tips.

At this width, the pen produces a 3.8 mm down-stroke with a 0.5 mm side hairline, suited to large-format lettering, certificate titling, and lettering work where the stroke needs to be visible at a distance. The barrel is a lightweight plastic design built to hold higher-capacity cartridges, supporting longer writing sessions without a refill. The cap is green, matching the pen's internal section. For the widest stroke in the series, the Pilot Parallel 6.0 mm is built for poster-scale lettering and broad ink fills.
