The Sakura Sumo Grip 0.5 mm mechanical pencil replaces the usual thin, round barrel with a wide triangular shape wrapped in a soft rubber cushion, designed to ease the hand strain that builds up from gripping a thinner pencil tightly for long stretches — useful if you deal with general hand fatigue, carpal tunnel symptoms, or other fine motor difficulties. The barrel is clear, so you can see the lead-advance mechanism working inside, and an internal clutch keeps the thin 0.5 mm lead from snapping under heavy hand pressure the way it might in a standard pencil.

The tip is a retractable metal guide sleeve that tucks away safely for pocket use, and the eraser is an oversized twist-advance design rated to last around six times longer than a standard pencil-cap eraser before it needs replacing. If you tend to press down hard while writing or need a bolder line, the Sakura Sumo Grip 0.7 mm uses a thicker, more break-resistant lead in the same ergonomic barrel.
